Mr. Harry Goldberg was the third Senior Salesman on the men's counter at Grace Brothers. He was a man of many talents and often had lucrative side-hustles going on in addition to his normal job.
History[]
Following the closing of his own store, Mr. Goldberg was hired as the Junior Assistant after the retirement of Mr. Tebbs. However, being that he had an enormous amount of experience in menswear, he was very quickly promoted to Senior, with the full support of both Mr. Lucas and Mr. Humphries. Part of the reason for this was that he brought his large and very loyal clientele from his own store over to Grace Brothers. This caused a major spike in sales, resulting in a huge surge in commissions which Mr. Goldberg very generously shared with Mr. Lucas and Mr. Humphries.
During the job interview, it's made clear that Mr. Goldberg very likely spent several years together with Captain Peacock while they served in the army. Mr. Goldberg referenced the fact that, at that time, Captain Peacock was a corporal and remained at that rank for an extended period of time. While Captain Peacock insists that this was not the case, Mr. Goldberg later finds a photograph of the both himself and Corporal Peacock together. The photograph is used to 'persuade' Captain Peacock to allow Mr. Goldberg to stay on as senior salesman, which is exactly what occurred.
Mr. Goldberg was senior salesman for all of season 7. One of his most lucrative side jobs was running an employment agency. In S7E7, he takes on a large amount of Grace Brothers employees as clients and starts finding better jobs for them at competing stores. This includes Mrs. Slocombe and Mr. Humphries, both of whom he sets up with a 'dream job'. This continues successfully until both Captain Peacock and Mr. Rumbold find out about the ordeal. Realizing that they may soon lose some of their sales staff, they inform Mr. Grace and come up with a plan to keep their employees. Ultimately, Mr. Grace gives both Mr. Humphries and Mrs. Slocombe a raise in order to keep them in the store, and Mr. Goldberg now has to look elsewhere for clients.
